This study uses a three-round Delphi method to establish a consensus framework for technology roadmapping in the South African mining industry. With 22 experts, it validates five core principles – strategic alignment, needs-driven processes, collaboration, strategic questioning, and risk management – and essential characteristics, including defined milestones and local context tailoring. The identified priority technologies are automation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable energy. The framework integrates Environmental, Social and Governance factors and dual maturity assessments. This research provides a validated, context-specific tool for mining companies to de-risk technology investment and enhance sustainable competitiveness.
